The Güater Project

My role

I spearheaded the UX/UI design for a collaborative five-person project focused on the scarcity of water in Spain. My primary responsibility was crafting a seamless and visually engaging user experience.

Güater, the product that helps environmentally conscious users change their water consumption habits and feel that they contribute to a more sustainable world through challenges rewarded by brands that share their same values.

Please see below the development of Güater from the research process, through the ideation to UX design and finally the interface design.

User Insights

We conducted 7 interviews with individuals from different regions of Spain to understand their habits and awareness about the scarcity of water. On top of that we collected 420 responses in our questionnaires. This is the main data we collected:

“”

I have a lot of climate anxiety.

If we run out of water we’re f@_#!

I waste water, but my waste is small.

I have very long hair... when I have to wash it, it takes me a few hours.

It affects me that I know there's a lack of water.

Consumption Tracking

Monitor your consumption at any time, compare it across months and days of the week.

Download smart bills to understand and visualize your water consumption and savings. For example, "This month, you saved 540 liters compared to the previous month, equivalent to running 12 full loads of 7 kg laundry." Track your progress and continue learning to save water.

Tamagochi Plant

Nurture your own plant with points earned from challenges and help it grow.

Your plant reflects your commitment to saving water.

Challenges

Overcome challenges to achieve realistic objectives.

Weekly, we offer mini-challenges of free choice lasting 3 to 7 days.

Automatically activate a monthly maxi-challenge tailored to your water consumption data. For example, save 50 liters per day for 30 days in exchange for 80 points and discounts from our sponsoring brands. This gradual approach aims to turn challenges into habits and, eventually, long-term routines.

Completing challenges gives you the satisfaction of contributing to the water crisis change.

Tips

Unsure where to start? Begin with your kitchen or bathroom using Güater's categorised tips.

Examples include collecting shower water to mop the floor or flush the toilet, potentially saving 70L per week. Use a sink full of water to wash dishes instead of leaving the tap open.

Save and revisit tips for later use.

Rewards

Efforts deserve rewards. Collaborating national brands committed to water conservation provide discounts to challenge winners.

In addition to points, each challenge victory earns entries for the Güater prize draw held every 6 months. The prize includes a bundle of products from sponsoring brands.

User Profile

Receive notifications about active challenges and your plant's status via your user profile.
